The Park Center for Independent Media is sponsoring ten student internships this summer. Each year, PCIM supports interns to work with indy media outlets to gain hands-on experience and intense familiarization with independent media outlets in the United States.
James Baratta (’22) is a Journalism major interning with the Institute for Public Accuracy. Working with WRFI Community Radio is Theresa Devlin (Fall ’20) and Phoebe Harms (’21), who both major in Journalism. Journalism major Madison Fernandez (’21) is working with The Ithaca Voice, as is Journalism and Politics major Selin Tuter (’21). Ella Krings (’21) is a Documentary Studies major interning at Veverka Productions.
Furthermore, Lauren Leone (’22) majors in Journalism and Politics and is working at WBFO Public Radio. Documentary Studies major Jackie Marusiak (’21) is interning with Hearland Film. Taylor Millican (’21), a Cinema and Photography major, is working at The Frontier. Environmental Science and Journalism major Kristen Waite (’21) is interning with Common Dreams.
“Summer internships are a vital aspect of PCIM’s mission. In addition to taking the independent media course, students get a chance to immerse themselves in non-corporate media production and distribution systems. This is vital for their intellectual journey as well as a prelude to their future careers. PCIM enables students to explore a world beyond the dominant media environments,” says Raza Rumi, Director of PCIM.
The Center’s mission is to engage media producers and students in dialogue and action about independent media, especially US-based outlets producing content (across single- or multiple-content platforms) on issues such as equity, social justice, and sustainability.
